Neodymium Grade Decoder
Type a grade such as N42SH. The tool reads the number and the letters and shows what they mean, using published supplier data, and where the grade name stops telling you anything.
Grade Decoder
Planning guidance based on published supplier data. Confirm the final choice on the datasheet of the exact material.

How to read a grade
A sintered neodymium grade has two parts. The number is the nominal maximum energy product (BH)max in MGOe, so N42 means about 42 MGOe, roughly 334 kJ/m³ [2][3]. The letters after it are the coercivity class: they state the minimum intrinsic coercivity (Hcj) the material is made to reach, and in practice they go with a higher maximum working temperature [1][2][3]. No letters means the standard class.
What the grade does not tell you: how hard a particular magnet pulls (that depends on size, shape, air gap and the surface it touches), the exact working temperature in your circuit, or whether a given supplier actually makes that number and letter combination. Values for the same grade also differ a little between suppliers, so treat the grade as a class and ask for the datasheet of the material you buy. The article How to read a neodymium grade: what N42SH tells you goes through this in detail.
Grades with high coercivity classes commonly contain dysprosium or terbium, and heavy rare earths can bring a Chinese export licence into the lead time; see our licence guide. For a quotation, send the grade, size, coating and quantity using the quote checklist.
