Custom Magnet Quote: What to Send
A checklist for getting a faster, more accurate quote on custom magnets, with an example request you can copy.
1. Why a complete request matters
A magnet quote depends on many choices: shape, size, grade, magnetization, coating, quantity and delivery. If one is missing, the supplier has to guess or come back with questions, and every round trip costs days. A complete request gets a faster and more accurate quote and avoids a wrong part. Use the checklist below; copy the example at the end if you prefer.
2. Product: shape and size
- A drawing (PDF, DWG or STEP) is best. If you have none, give the shape (disc, block, ring, arc segment, other) and every dimension.
- The tolerance for each dimension, and whether it applies before or after coating.
- For arc segments: outer radius, inner radius, arc angle, axial length, wall thickness (see our arc segment guide).
3. Material and magnetic data
- Material: neodymium (NdFeB), samarium cobalt, ferrite or AlNiCo.
- Grade, for example N42 or N45UH, or the magnetic values you need (Br, Hcj) if you do not know the grade.
- Maximum operating temperature, and the shape of the magnetic circuit if you know it (see our selection guide).
- Whether Dy or Tb content is acceptable. High-coercivity grades often contain them and can be subject to a Chinese export licence, which affects lead time (see our licence guide).
4. Magnetization
- Direction: axial, diametral, through the thickness, radial or parallel (for arcs).
- Which face is north, if it matters.
- Poles per part, if more than one.
5. Coating and environment
- Coating: nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni), epoxy, zinc or other.
- Environment: dry indoor, humid, outdoor, washdown, salt, chemicals, oil.
- Whether the magnet is glued, and to what.
- Corrosion test and acceptance, if you require one (see our coating guide).
6. Quantity and delivery
- Quantity for the first order and the expected yearly quantity.
- Samples first, or straight to production.
- Delivery address, country and the date you need the goods.
- Delivery terms you prefer (Incoterm), if any.
7. Quality and documents
- Inspection you want before shipment, for example a sampling inspection to an agreed standard.
- Test reports you need: dimensions, magnetic values, coating, composition.
- Information about the end use and end user. We may need it for export licence files.
8. What you get back
We answer with the points you still have to settle and a quotation that states the grade, dimensions, quantity, price, quality criteria and lead time. If the grade may need a Chinese export licence we say so and give the lead time including that step.
9. Example request you can copy
We need arc segment magnets, NdFeB grade N45UH. Outer radius [ ] mm, inner radius [ ] mm, arc angle [ ]°, length [ ] mm, tolerance [ ]. Radial magnetization, north face on the outer radius. Coating Ni-Cu-Ni, dimensions after coating. Maximum operating temperature [ ] °C. Quantity [ ] pcs for the first order, [ ] pcs per year. Delivery to [city, country] by [date]. Please advise lead time, inspection options and test reports.
Frequently asked questions
What should I include in a custom magnet quote request?
Shape and every dimension with tolerances (a drawing is best), the material and grade or the magnetic values you need, the maximum operating temperature, the magnetisation direction, the coating and environment, the quantity for the first order and per year, the delivery address and date, and the inspection and test reports you want.
Why say whether tolerances apply before or after coating?
Coating adds to every surface, so the finished size differs from the ground size. Stating which one your tolerance refers to avoids a wrong part. Our coating guide explains how much a coating adds.
What do I get back after sending a request?
We answer with the points you still have to settle and a quotation that states the grade, dimensions, quantity, price, quality criteria and lead time. If the grade may need a Chinese export licence we say so and include that step in the lead time.
Important notice: This guide is a general checklist. It is not a specification, an offer or a commitment by Rami Technics. Prices, lead times and terms are stated only in a written quotation.
